A native of southwest Michigan, Dr. Matt Nelson and his wife Elizabeth knew they wanted live in Grand Rapids when he left the Army in 2016.
Dr. Matt grew up near the Michigan-Indiana border and completed the course work to become a dental assistant during his senior year at River Valley High School. Dr. Nelson holds BS and DDS degrees from Grand Valley State University and Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and completed advanced training at Fort Benning, Georgia while stationed there with the US Army. This higher-level dentistry training included root canals, extractions, soft tissue surgery, trauma repair, and implants.
When asked about his treatment philosophy, Dr. Matt replied, “I’m about as conservative a dentist as you can be. I want to do the best thing for the patient. Quality and functionality are my number one concern, after relieving their pain. It’s a good feeling when you can get someone out of pain and on the road to healing effectively.”
When Dr. Nelson is not in the office or on the golf course, he and wife Elizabeth enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, and trying to keep up with their children, Charlie and Amelia.
